Last straw… or tree rather…

My posts have been sporadic, I know. But we have had a lot of stuff going on. Trees falling, ground dug up, mulch moved. Etcetera, etcetera.

Today at 7:15 our Landscaper Guy & his crew showed up to take down the last tree. This dude lived next to us at our previous house. In the winter he grows his hair out and doesn’t shave and looks sort of like Ted Kaczinksy. But a kinder, gentler, non-bomber Ted. When we moved, we told him we’d definitely be giving him some business. At the old house he plowed our driveway/circle pretty much every time we had a big snowfall so we certainly owed him.

Landscaper Guy came about a month ago all shaved and short-haired with his crew of ex-convict-looking guys and cleaned up our leaves and cleared out the area out back that has multiple flowering plants that I can’t spell properly. I about crapped my pants when one large head-shaved tatooed man knocked on the door for a glass of water. But they are all really nice. Anyway  we asked Landscaper Guy to give us a price for removing a tree hanging precariously over our house. While he was here, he also pointed out two dead trees that should be removed. Then we didn’t hear from him for over week. A week in which we were panicking because we thought the swingset was coming and we needed the tree down that he pointed out would be over the swingset.

Mother’s day we come home to find Landscaper Guy just showed up and took a tree down. A small tree that he did by himself. The two days later he showed up with the same crew as last time and took the other trees that I posted last week. They said it was too windy to try the tree hanging over the house. We asked him for a price on cleaning out the side brush-manifested area of the yard but still haven’t heard about it. That same day Landscaper’s Wife showed up (looking somewhat like Landscaper does in the winter) and asked if we wanted to make a payment. We’re happy to do so but we hadn’t gotten any prices for anything except an estimate for the trees. Landscaper Guy is really nice and gave us WAYYYYYY great prices. Like less for the yardwork, the trees and rental of his bobcat than what one tree removal company quoted us. So I gave her a check and she left.

So the Landscaper Guy – he is REALLY RANDOM. Right?

We borrowed his bobcat this weekend and Dan used it to dig out some space and transfer the mulch for the swingset. He told Dan to call when he was done so he could pick it up or he would have to come back to put traffic cones around the bobcat trailer. Dan calls around 5pm Saturday night. No call back. No cones. No Landscaper Guy. AGAIN!

Sunday passes. Again no Landscaper Guy!

Today at 7:15 AM! the Landscaper Guy showed up. WITH HIS CREW. To take down this tree.

As I type this braches are dropping and I’m praying that Random Landscaper Guy doesn’t lop off something important… like a limb not belonging to the tree… or my deck.

Lastly some video of the weekend activities on the ranch.

  1. I want a bobcat!!! Sweet video. Liam must have been thrilled. We have video of Clark on the deck watching the guys with the _big_ backhoes filling in the well.

hopefully your lawn survived better than ours did. I haven’t been able to post those pics yet. As Amy has been out for 30+ minutes, 3x a day, watering the grass seed that is in the ‘mud’ that they left behind.

  2. dude. I’m jealous. I’d show troy, but I might come home from the road trip and find one in the back yard. I already have a feeling a new computer will be purchased.. don’t need heavy machinary, too.

good stuff, though. Liam’s a lucky kid.
